The approach we take in this book is to have three scenarios and threat levels; think DEFCON 3, 2 and 1. If we are infected with a more forgiving piece of malware we’ll move to DEFCON 3 and target the malware. If the malware is a nasty specimen we’ll move to DEFCON 2 and start to quarantine certain sections of our hard drive. If however we are unfortunate enough to contact a particularly malicious and lingering piece of malware we’ll move to DEFCON 1 and nuke the pest.
